SANTIAGO – The airline LATAM confirmed on Tuesday the death of a pilot in mid-flight who presented health problems when he covered the route between Miami and the Chilean capital, reported a company statement.
The event was recorded on Monday and forced an emergency landing in Panama. “After landing and after receiving assistance on the ground, unfortunately the pilot died,” the report said.
The statement added that during the flight all the protocols were followed to safeguard the life of the affected pilot”, who had worked for the company for 25 years. The passengers of flight LA505 were reboarded on Tuesday to continue their journey to Chile.
The airline emerged in 2015, after a merger between the Chilean company LAN and the Brazilian TAM, becoming one of the most important at the regional level.
