His dream turned into a nightmare.
DSDS cult star Menderes Bağcı (38) did it. He recently released his first album Sieger der Herzen. 20 years after his first participation in “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”.
The title of the EP: of course a reference to Menderes’ permanent candidacy for the casting show. The TV star has been in every season since it started in 2003, but usually left immediately. It wasn’t enough for a big dream, until now.
Without DSDS-Sieg Menderes is now allowed to release his first record. The likeable singer then sings many hits from the past 20 DSDS seasons (“We Have a Dream”, “My Heart”), but also his own songs like “Take a start”.

It happened during the video shoot for the self-creation earlier this year: Menderes stranded his car in a forest area on the way to the film location and waited for hours for help.
Menderes to BILD: “It was near Berlin. The sat nav led me straight into a forest path and I thought that must be true. The ground was getting sandy and I felt like I was on a rally.”
The shooting took place in the Lieberoser desert in Brandenburg, a sandy protected area between Berlin and Cottbus. Adjacent is the Spreewald. “When I was supposed to turn around in the middle of the forest, it seemed very strange to me,” says Menderes. “I then got completely stuck with the car, nothing worked anymore.”
That’s when the song title “Take a start” became a reality. But the car didn’t want to get out of the mud, even with a powerful run-up. Menderes: “I was lucky that I still had some signal on my mobile phone. Luckily I was able to give my coordinates with it.” And that in the deepest part of Brandenburg…
Menderes had to wait for help for almost six hours until a towing service freed him from the misery.
Why was he even driving alone?
Menderes: “I generally like to travel alone. However, I don’t have a private car, I only rent it when I’m traveling longer distances.”
The DSDS permanent guest does everything privately on foot. Whether shopping or mail. “This is how you stay physically fit and don’t get the idea of getting too lazy.”
But in the end the video was still finished. With success: With the album “Sieger der Herzen” Menderes made it to number 99 in the Mediacontrol Charts.

For a few years, the singer has only made guest appearances on DSDS and no longer takes part in the competition. Reason: the age limit of 30, which he has exceeded. But with the recently announced Season 21 will be canceled. So Menderes could get involved again.
He leaves open whether he wants that. “The next goal I would like to do is give my own concerts,” reveals Menderes. “An own concert, if fans buy the tickets just because of me, that would really be something…”
The Finale of the anniversary season of DSDS runs on Saturday on RTL at 8.15 p.m.
