Economic Mobility Program in Fairfax County will offer $750 per month to families

A Fairfax County program will offer $750 a month to dozens of qualifying families as part of an economic mobility pilot program.

The aid will be granted to 180 families.

One resident, Lizeth Montoya Martínez, said that with that money, “the first thing I would do most is buy food… and also clothes for my children.”

The resources will not have to be returned, and can be requested regardless of your immigration status.

“Currently, more than all, food is super high and it is time to stretch other needs a little to buy a little food, and that would 100% help families,” said resident Virginia López.

The aid would last for 15 months, and the beneficiaries will have no limitations. They can spend that money on whatever they need.

The county will begin receiving applications in September.

Applicants must show documents that prove that:

  • are over 18 years old
  • they have work
  • have at least one child under the age of 16 at home
  • your income is between 150% and 250% of the 2023 federal poverty level
  • live in fairfax county

To participate in the program, you can apply online through a portal that will open in September or in person at the county offices. You can also call 703-324-1050 for more information.

“There are many people who are afraid, that fear of ‘I don’t have, I do have,’” said resident Nino Bravo. “It is really going to be a great help for them to open their way. A little goes a long way.”
