Miami: Airport Expands Facial Recognition

Miami airport expands facial recognition verification of each passenger to 20 more international departure gates, the largest stage of implementation of the technology since the facility began testing it in 2018.

Passengers departing on international flights from these gates will line up in the airline’s boarding area and a small contactless camera will take a picture of each person and compare it to their passports on file.

This step should take a few seconds and eliminate the need to show your boarding pass and passport. Enhanced screening is only for departing passengers on international flights and is performed by airlines.

Previously, the Miami airport installed facial recognition technology at a handful of international departure gates in Concourse J.
