The man who doused himself with a flammable liquid and set himself on fire outside the courthouse where former President Donald Trump is being tried has died, police have said.
The New York Police Department indicated early Saturday that staff at an area hospital certified his death.
The man was in Collect Pond Park around 1:30 p.m. Friday when he pulled out pamphlets espousing conspiracy theories, threw them, then doused himself with an accelerant and set himself on fire, officials and witnesses said.
A large number of police officers were nearby when it occurred. Some agents and bystanders rushed to help the man, who at that time was hospitalized in critical condition.
The man, who police said had recently traveled from Florida to New York, had not skipped any security checkpoints to access the park.

The park outside the courthouse has been a meeting point for protesters, journalists and onlookers throughout Trump’s trial, which began Monday with jury selection.
As of Friday, streets and sidewalks around the courthouse were generally open and crowds have been small and largely orderly.
Officials said they were reviewing safety protocols, including the possibility of restricting access to the park. The side street where Trump enters and exits the building is off-limits.
