A Volvo launched in the United States the new versions of the XC40 and C40, its two electric SUVs. The vehicles are now equipped with new batteries and have received engine improvements, both in versions with one propeller and in those with two. The announcement of these new variants had taken place in early 2023.
In the case of the XC40 and C40 with only one engine, there was an increase in power in the electric engine and a significant improvement in autonomy. Now allocated on the rear axle, the electric motor yields 251hp and the battery, with a new 82 kWh, allows the XC40 to run 471km and the C40 478km, both measurements in the EPA cycle, standard in the USA.
This engine, according to Volvo, was developed internally and is better matched with the battery, which received improvements in its composition, becoming denser. In addition to giving more autonomy, this battery allows SUVs to be charged faster, supporting 200 kWh of power in fast chargers. To further illustrate this capability, the car can go from 10 to 80% in just 28 minutes.
As for the versions with two engines, the changes were more felt precisely in the thrusters. Now, instead of two with 203hp, Volvo divided it as follows: rear axle with 258hp and permanent magnet and front axle with 149hp and asynchronous, totaling 407hp, but with a slightly different operation from the previous version.
In a statement, Volvo explains that the front engine will only be activated when necessary, something that also reflects on the autonomy, since the battery continues with 78 kWh. The new figures reveal that the XC40 P8 can run for 409km while the C40 for 414km, both of course on the EPA cycle.
New versions coming to Brazil?
Volvo has not yet revealed whether the new Volvo XC40 and C40 come to Brazil, but the trend is for SUVs to be updated here soon, as the company does not usually leave the country out in global launches.
