After his speech, Emmanuel Macron took a walk at the end of the evening in Paris with his wife. As they were walking, they were stopped by a group of young people singing. The latter asked the president if he could join them. He then accepted to sing a Pyrenean song “which he likes and knows”, according to those around him. The song taken up by the president and the young people around him is Le Refuge, a traditional song from the Pyrenees, here taken up by a group supporting the Canto Project, a controversial project aimed at “saving, bringing to life and transmitting the memory of popular song and traditional”. The video was particularly shared and commented on by sympathizers of the extreme right like Stanislas Rigault – president of Generation Z and close to Éric Zemmour – without the young people who challenged the president necessarily being identified as being of this movement. “He could not know at that time the background of each person with whom he was discussing”, finally specifies the entourage of the president to BFMTV.
