Ansgar Knauff has been playing for Eintracht Frankfurt for almost exactly a year now. The offensive player was loaned to the Hessians by Borussia Dortmund and will play for the SBU until the summer and has already experienced a lot during this time.

In the second half of last season he established himself as a regular player under coach Oliver Glasner. He also scored in the first legs of the Europa League against Barcelona and West Ham United, played the full 120 minutes of the final and celebrated the team’s title win.

Frankfurt or BVB? Knauff future open

In the current season, Glasner has been tinkering with the Frankfurt system, which is why Knauff has been used in various positions, and a thigh injury stopped him in October. After that he came back strong and scored in his comeback against Augsburg.

Since Knauff’s loan is now in its last six months, the question arises as to how the 21-year-old will continue. In an interview with “Kicker”, he says that he is “relaxed” with the uncertain situation. “I’m concentrating fully on the second half of the season – anything is possible with this club,” added Knauff afterwards.

According to the right footer, in order to have a good season, there is not much time to think about other things. “Of course we will get together sooner or later to discuss how to proceed,” Knauff clarified. He then explains in detail what is important to him when making decisions about the future: the sporting environment. “I’m at the beginning of my career and it’s no use looking at anything other than my sporting development,” says Knauff.

From this it can be concluded that it is extremely important for the U21 international to get regular playing time. For young players in particular, this is elementary for their development. In Dortmund, the competition for Knauff would certainly be greater in his position, so it would have to be seen what Knauff believes himself capable of and what plans the Dortmund bosses have for him.

According to Knauff, the Frankfurt fans can also hope to stay: “Eintracht and BVB are both great clubs with fantastic fans and great stadiums. I don’t know what’s in the summer yet. But I know one thing: In the next six months I will give everything for Eintracht.”

However, a Knauff obligation from Frankfurt could be expensive for the SGE. Although Knauff is still under contract in Dortmund until the summer of 2024, according to several media reports, the Hessians have not included a purchase option in the loan agreement. Since the market value of the offensive player is around ten million according to “Transfermarkt.de”, Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche should probably ask himself whether he is willing to invest so much money.
