Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp is a rare constant in Eintracht Frankfurt’s ever-changing squad. He has been playing on the Main since 2018 and has seen quite a few players come and go. In the meantime, Luka Jović, Sébastien Haller, André Silva and Co. have left the club for many millions of euros, Trapp remained loyal to the SBU – although he performed at least as well and top clubs in Frankfurt kept knocking on his door.

FC Bayern recently asked and wanted to poach Trapp as a replacement for the injured Manuel Neuer. Manchester United are also said to have expressed an interest in the 32-year-old last summer and this transfer window. But Trapp and Eintracht resisted all attempts to poach them. Instead, the club and players are currently negotiating an early contract extension.

According to “picture“Both sides should basically agree. The parties only disagree on one point – and that’s the salary.

Trapp should demand a higher salary

With an annual salary of 3.7 million euros and possible success bonuses, he can earn a total of five million euros. Trapp is therefore the top earner in the Eintracht squad. Frankfurt, which like all clubs is suffering from the economic consequences of the pandemic and inflation, allegedly offers him a fixed salary of two million euros plus higher bonuses. Trapp should insist on an even better wage.

The coming weeks and months will show to what extent the players and the club will come closer and which side will be the first to compromise. Trapp’s contract runs until the 2024 summer break.

If the Frankfurters want to prevent their goalkeeper from leaving on a free transfer, they should come to an agreement before the start of the coming season. Because other clubs have already taken the risk of starting the new season with a regular player in the last year of their contract and have fallen flat on their noses.

However, Trapp also knows what he has in Eintracht. Frankfurt are in the round of 16 of the Champions League and could even reach the quarter-finals against SSC Napoli. Things are also going well in the Bundesliga: before the 17th matchday, the SBU is in second place in the table. In the next two games, Frankfurt can move up to two points behind leaders FC Bayern on their own.
