State aid for the purchase of an electric bicycle will be accessible to more households in 2023, the government announced on Tuesday, December 27, three months after launching an ambitious “bicycle plan”.

With electric assistance, cargo, tech or even inclusive… the bike is popular

“To support a larger number of French people in the purchase of bicycles, the eligibility thresholds will be raised, from January 1, 2023, to cover 50% of the most modest households”explained the Ministry of Ecological Transition in a press release.

“The transition must be accessible to all”

The eligibility threshold for this bonus on the purchase of a bicycle, which can reach 300 euros, will be raised to a “reference tax income per unit less than 14,089 euros, compared to 13,489 euros currently”according to the same source.

The conditions for awarding the enhanced bonus of 400 euros, intended for precarious people and the disabled, will also be extended next year, with a reference tax income threshold per share increasing from 6,300 to 6,358 euros.

Can the bike seduce beyond city centers?

“The bicycle is a real solution for getting around on short trips without polluting and fully contributes to the ecological transition. This transition must be accessible to all French people. This is why we have decided to extend these purchase aids throughout 2023, for the benefit of low-income households.said the Minister Delegate for Transport, Clément Beaune, quoted in the press release.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced on September 20 a second plan for the development of the little queen, supplemented for 2023 by 250 million euros, with the aim of making France a “bike nation” in the name of the fight against global warming, but also of public health and the revival of economic activity.
