In Spain it was over 38 C, in Austria more than 30 degrees, and in Poland, 29 degrees. In more than ten European countries there were the warmest October days and there were also mountain weather stations in the south where the night minimum was higher than 20 degrees.

At more than 2,000 European weather stations, the absolute temperature record for October was exceeded, estimates climatologist Maximiliano Herrera, who monitors climate extremes all over the world.

In Spain it was +38.2 C at Montoro and 37 C at Cordoba, and at mountain stations above 1,300 m alt there were nocturnal minimums of over 20 C (tropical nights). On Tuesday, the maximum was +36.9 C in Roda de Andalucia.

In France, a new October record was set, +35.8 C at Navarrenx. In Austria, the highs exceeded 30 C, and in Prague, in the Czech Republic, they were +27.8 C.

In Poland, in Legnica, it was +29.3 C, and in Sisak in Croatia, it was +29.6 C. The temperature reached +29.8 C in Notzingen (Germany), and in Switzerland there were many of absolute records, including +22.2 C in Zermatt, at 1,600 m alt. In Novo Mesto, Slovenia, it was 29 C.

Romania was not touched by this heat wave. The highest temperatures were on October 1: +31 C in Bucharest and +30 C in Videle. These are high temperatures for October, but far from the record for the month: 37 – 39 C.
