Grönemeyer, Peter Maffay, Olé auf Schalke or a 90s party: these concert and event highlights will be in the Arena and in Gelsenkirchen in 2023.

It’s going to be a good 2023: The event calendars of the city’s largest venues are already full, and numerous concerts and performances are planned. These stars come to Gelsenkirchen, these artists will entertain the audience, these events are coming up – in the Veltins Arena, the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche, the Kaue and the amphitheater in the Nordsternpark. We give an overview without claiming to be complete.

Santiano, Peter Maffay, Nena, Howard Carpendale: These stars come to the Gelsenkirchen amphitheater

She starts things off: come on Saturday, May 20th Nena with their “We belong together” open air tour in the amphitheater at Nordsternpark. There is a lot to celebrate, but above all this: In 2023, Nena’s “99 balloons” have been flying around the world for 40 years. Ticket prices start at 63.25 euros.

Metal fans have two reasons to celebrate in 2023: The magazine “Rock Hard” is celebrating its 40th anniversary and the one that goes with it “Rock Hard Festival”, which always takes place at Pentecost in Gelsenkirchen, is around 20 years old. Thousands of visitors from many parts of Europe are again expected for the anniversary edition, which takes place from May 26th to 28th in the amphitheater in Horst. Advance ticket sales are already in full swing. The festival ticket without camping costs 124.05 euros, with camping 157.05 euros.

It’s happening in quick succession: On Friday, June 2nd, one of Germany’s most successful musicians is coming to Emscherstadt. Plays from 8 p.m Peter Maffay his open-air concert on the amphitheater stage, tickets are available from 74.95 euros. Also coming in June Nightwish (one of two Germany-wide exclusive open-air shows on Monday, June 12, 6:55 p.m.; 84.85 euros) and silvermoon (Friday, June 30, 8 p.m.; 59.60 euros) to play in front of a special backdrop.






Also exclusive is the planned concert by Howard Carpendale. It starts on Saturday, July 29th at 8 p.m. “For me, open-air concerts are very special shows. Before I go on my big arena tour in 2024, I want to experience an unforgettable summer together with the audience,” promises the well-known artist. The concert tickets cost 79.90 euros.


Another highlight of the concert year in the amphitheater: at the end of August, on Friday, August 25 to be precise, the shanty rockers from Santiano once again to Gelsenkirchen. They had already given a brilliant concert there in June 2022, 4400 fans celebrated a nearly two-hour show with the maritime rock band (you can see the most beautiful pictures of the evening again here). This year is set to get even better as the band is celebrating their tenth anniversary. The concert tickets cost 74.90 euros, it starts at 8 p.m.

Herbert Grönemeyer, 90s party, Olé auf Schalke – Gelsenkirchen’s Veltins Arena is once again becoming a mega venue

According to the organizer, it should be the largest 90s party be in the world: on Saturday, March 25th, it will take place in the Veltins Arena for the third time. ATC (Around the World), Reel 2 Reel (I Like To Move It), No Mercy (Where Do You Go), Double You (Please Don´t Go), C+C Music Factory (Gonna Make You Sweat) have announced their participation – Everybody Dance Now), East 17 (It’s Alright), Oli. P (Planes in the Stomach), Lutricia McNeal (Stranded), Mr. President (Coco Jamboo), Culture Beat (Mr Vain) and as special guest Aqua (Barbie Girl). It starts at 1:30 p.m., doors open at 12 p.m. Tickets are available from EUR 14.90 (north curve).

This year also returns Herbert Groenemeyer returned to the concert stages with his band. Numerous shows are already sold out, for the concert of his “That’s going on” tour on Friday, June 9, 8 p.m. in the arena, there are still a few remaining tickets. Tickets are available from 47.25 euros.

In late summer 2023 there will be a premiere: In the Veltins Arena, for the first time K-Pop Bang Festival held, the newest festival for K-Pop in Europe. K-Pop is the abbreviation for Korean Popular Music or Korean Pop for short and is a collective term for Korean-language pop music, with elements from different music genres. Fans can look forward to an extensive program with the megastars of K-Pop. The organizers are expecting fans to come from all over Germany and neighboring countries. When? Saturday, September 9, from 5.30 p.m., admission from 2.30 p.m. The tickets cost from 87 euros.

The conclusion of the Olé Party Tour follows on Saturday, October 14th Olé on Schalke – just like last year. The largest open-air party tour is now in its 17th year, with well over 100,000 visitors recently celebrating at the Olé parties throughout Germany. And this year well-known hit and party artists want to come to the Veltins Arena: for example Culcha Squad, Mia Julia, Mickie Krause, Lorenz Büffel or Julian Sommer. The big party starts at 1 p.m., admission is from 12 p.m. The tickets cost 24.90 euros.

After the biathlon at Schalke is before the biathlon at Schalke. Because this date is already fixed: Thursday, December 28th, they say “20 years of biathlon at Schalke” – what began as an idea in 2002 will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2023. Johann König, Hennes Bender, Olaf Schubert, Axel Prahl – Gelsenkirchen’s Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche and the Kaue are diverse cultural sites

It is the monument of brick expressionism, the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche, which has been officially in service as a cultural space since last year. A lot is planned for 2023, various events, both musical and humorous, invite you to try out this special cultural location. How about Hennes Bender, who is bringing his program “Wiedersehen macht Freude” to Ückendorf on Saturday, February 4th, from 7 p.m.? Tickets cost from 20.10 euros.

John King is a guest on Saturday, March 11th. He is showing his latest solo program “Who makes plans will be laughed at!” on Bochumer Strasse. Another show by the comedian follows a day later, on Sunday, March 12. Start is at 7 p.m. each day. The tickets cost 30.40 to 34.80 euros. Presented on Saturday March 18th Ingo Appelt his “even newer program starting signal” in the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche. This is so new that there is no text for it yet. Ticket prices: 25 to 29.40 euros. Olaf Schubert & his friends come at the end of March, on Friday. Culture will also take place in the Kaue in 2023: Ingo Oschmann wants to present his new program “Joke Therapy” on Wilhelminenstrasse on Sunday, February 19, from 8 p.m. (admission: 23.90 euros), on Saturday, February 25, it will be funny, local patriotic and historical when the Emscher ranger enter the stage. This time with their new play “Emscher, Wo Gehse?” – it starts at 8 p.m., tickets are available for 19 euros.

Rudelsingen – a cult format for singing along that was born in Münster – has been celebrating its triumphal march through Germany since 2011. He is one of the great political cabaret artists in this country. After more than 40 years on the stage, he has been presenting his program “It doesn’t stop” since spring 2021: On Friday, November 3rd, is Wilfried Schmickler to see from 8 p.m. in the Kaue. Ticket prices: 27.20 euros.

The most requested Phil Collins and Genesis tribute band in Europe, “Quiet Collins”, will come to Gelsenkirchen at the end of 2023.
