Exclusive: Car theft victim speaks

José Torres, spokesman for the Hialeah police, says: “Hialeah police arrested Gilberto for various acts, three of them Car Theft, one was Theft of items inside the car and the fifth was arrested for being in possession of a car stolen from the city of Miami.”

On this occasion, the defendant did not take the vehicle, but according to the police report, Gonzalez stole three cars in Hialeah and another in the city of Miami, the last one he was driving, a blue BMW with gold wheels.

“A detective recognized him from a surveillance camera, found him and arrested him, brought him here and convinced him to give a statement of what he did.”

The other car thefts were recorded one on July 25 at night at 620 West and 29th Street in Hialeah, and the other on July 30 at 4675 West and 18 Court in Hialeah.

“With the technology, thieves have the possibility of starting the cars easier, they break the ignition, they connect and they manage to start the vehicles.”

González now faces several charges of Major Theft, in the images captured by the victims it is seen how the defendant tries to open the doors of other vehicles without success until he leaves the area.

“Please do not leave the keys inside the car, do not leave the cars open because you give these criminals the doors open so they can take the car or the items inside.”

The investigation continues, while González remains behind bars, for now he faces a $25,000 bail.
