• A multitude of film projects have been announced, only one of which seems to be almost concrete
  • Disney has gotten us used to announcing movies and series and then dropping them along the way
  • The future of the saga is much clearer with regard to the series

“Star Wars is a cinematic event, I want to see films from the saga on the big screen. Star Wars rhymes with big show, and who says big show says big screen. » The clear opinion of YouTuber Absolute, specializing in the Star Wars universe, says a lot about the impatience of some fans regarding the feature films of the saga.

Recently, during the Star Wars Celebration, Disney provided the beginning of an answer. Problem, the various projects presented are currently only at the pre-production stage, and in some cases, the script may not even be written. Let’s do a check in.

A film about Rey’s fate

This is undoubtedly the most advanced project. As we told you, Lucasfilm has formalized a film with Rey which takes place fifteen years after the Ascension of Skywalker. The latter’s mission is to form a new Jedi order.

Without really saying it, Disney is therefore teasing an episode X. The script was entrusted to Steven Knight, the creator of the excellent series Peaky Blinders. This new installment will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and should be released shortly before Christmas 2025.

A feature film “The Mandalorian”

This film is directed Dave Filoni and will conclude the action of the series The Mandalorian, The Boba Fett Book, or even Ahsoka. Here too, it is not very clear, even if we are talking about a release in 2026. Above all, the director, who is already overseeing a lot of projects, will he have the time necessary to carry it out?

Un filmed by Taika Waititi

Once again it is the artistic blur. We know that a Star Wars feature film project has been entrusted to filmmaker Taika Waititi. It was confirmed at Star Wars Celebration, but the New Zealand director prefers to work alone and gives no information about it.

Buried projects (or almost)

It’s fine to multiply the announcements to impress the gallery, but still it is necessary to follow up. This is the case with the feature film by Patty Jenkins, Rogue Squadron, announced with great fanfare, and of which we have no news. Same thing for the production of Kevin Feige which seems to have lead in the wing.

As for the new trilogy directed by Rian Johnson, that also seems very complicated. We nevertheless learned during the Star Wars Celebration that the project is not buried, but that the director is currently working on something else, and in particular the franchise. At Knives Out for Netflix.

On the other hand, and to end on a more positive note, the future of Star Wars looks more interesting in series. The franchise holds an indestructible character with Grogu. And the imminent arrival of Admiral Thrawn gives him a charismatic villain who can be exploited at will.
