Chihuahua, Chih.- The disappearance of the National Financiera de Desarrollo Agropecuario, Rural, Forestal y Pesquero (FND), as contemplated by the Federal Government, will complicate the activity mainly of small producers in the state, where it has a current portfolio of 5 thousand 500 million pesos reported Arturo González Ruiz, president of the Chihuahua State Agricultural Council (CEACH).

González Ruiz explained that the Financiera granted long-term and revolving credits, which are the ones they grant each year, these with an amount of 2 billion pesos that were dispersed to around 3,500 producers.

González Ruiz explained that the Financiera granted long-term and revolving credits, which are the ones they grant each year, these with an amount of 2 billion pesos that were dispersed to around 3,500 producers.

Precisely, of these 2 billion pesos, 661 million pesos were missing to disperse this year among small producers and who managed to cover themselves with the guarantee of the State Government through a trust with funds granted by Fira-banco de México.

“The same thing did not happen in the rest of the country, where many producers are left ‘hanging’, who have no way to replace the credits of the National Financial Institution, which since the end of last year stopped granting financing,” he said.

The representative of the agricultural sector warned that, without the operation of the FND, the situation will be more complicated for small producers, since each time they require more credits for production.

In this sense, he said that credit is today a key element to continue activity and increase production.

González Ruiz pointed out that they are waiting for some alternative from the Federal Government, so as not to leave producers “hanging” with credits, in addition to the fact that those that are emerging require them to grow and start projects.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador sent to the Chamber of Deputies an initiative to extinguish the FND, arguing that financial support for rural producers must come directly.
