Three days after being discharged from the René Favaloro hospital in Villa Cabello where he was hospitalized for 16 days after attempting to take his own life, today Mario Maidana, the 42-year-old man who is accused of murdering blows and suffocation to his partner Natalia Castro (41), last Wednesday, January 18, inside a hotel accommodation on López y Planes avenue in the provincial capital.
The defendant arrived around noon at the building of the Investigating Court Three of Posadas, on Santa Fé street in the Posada microcenter, escorted by police officers in charge of his custody. After appearing before Judge Fernando Verón, head of the aforementioned court, Maidana appointed a lawyer to represent him in the process and immediately afterwards he was notified of the evidence that had been against him so far.
Although when asked if he would give his version of the facts before the judge, the alleged femicide chose to remain silent. And before being transferred again to the police station where he remains detained, the man was charged with homicide qualified by the link. Although sources consulted by this morning indicated that this classification is provisional and it is not ruled out that in the next few days the accusation will change.
As this morning published at the time, Maidana had to be admitted after being found in the bathroom of the hotel accommodation next to Castro’s body with a serious neck injury, self-inflicted with a beer bottle. He was first accommodated at the Madariaga Hospital, but then his transfer to Favaloro was defined.
There, he was in an induced coma in intensive care due to the large amount of blood he lost. He then recovered, but pneumonia forced him to stay in intensive care for a few more days, always with police custody ordered by Justice.
A detail that came out is that during the days he was in the place he received a visit from his sister and a lawyer. In this context, exactly one week ago his transfer to intensive care was arranged until finally on Friday he obtained medical discharge and was discharged at midday.
Given this, the Misiones Police and the hospital authorities mounted an operation to remove him from the hospital, taking into account the movement of the hospital, especially the pediatric sector. The alleged femicide was housed in the Fourth Section.
