FHM writes that the “epidemiological situation in China with regard to covid-19 is unclear and that travel from the country will increase sharply in the coming weeks”. Therefore, the government is being asked to prepare for requirements that people traveling to Sweden from China must be able to present a certificate that they have tested negative for covid-19.
Those who are proposed to be covered by the rules are people over 12 years of age and third-country nationals, which means people residing outside the EEA countries and Switzerland. FHM writes that joint action at the EU level is important and that their place of residence should be seen as a preparation for a recommendation from the EU.
– This should be seen as a possible infection prevention measure in light of the fact that we currently do not have much information about the epidemiological situation in China. This applies not least if there are different virus variants circulating there than those found in the rest of the world, says Sara Byfors, head of department at the Public Health Agency.
Last Friday, Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forssmed (KD) announced that the Swedish government is in dialogue with other European countries so that such regulation is as consistent as possible in the EU. In the past, Italy and the USA, among others, have introduced requirements for a negative covid test for people who traveled from China.
