Film ‘Shimmering Bodies’ competes at Cannes Critics’ Week

‘WOrpos Cintilantes’ is the first work by director Inês Teixeira, produced by Terratreme Filmes, and was selected for the short film competition of the Critics’ Week, one of the cinema programs that take place in parallel with the Cannes Film Festival.

According to Terratreme, the film “explores a particular moment in the life of Mariana, a 16-year-old girl, played by Maria Abreu, who, when invited to spend a weekend in Leiria, at the home of her colleague Jorge (the actor Gaspar Menezes), begins to look at him in a different way”.

Inês Teixeira makes her debut as a director, but in recent years she has “professionally performed the functions of annotator, editing assistant and editor of films and television series”, says the producer.

The 62nd Cannes Critics’ Week is scheduled for the 17th to the 25th of May.

The jury that awards the prizes is chaired by director Audrey Diwan and includes, among its members, the participation of director of photography Rui Poças.

Alongside the Critics’ Week, Cannes also hosts the Fortnight of Filmmakers, whose program, announced on Tuesday, includes the feature film “Légua”, by Filipa Reis and João Miller Guerra, and a restored version of “Vale Abraão” , by Manoel de Oliveira, on the occasion of the thirty years of its debut.

Also in the Quinzena de Cineastas there is a focus on film production in the north of Portugal, in the initiative “La Factory des Cinéastes”, involving the Portuguese producer Bando à Parte and directors André Guiomar, Mário Macedo, Melanie Pereira and Mariana Bártolo.

In the programming of the Cannes Film Festival, in the “Un Certain Regard” section, there is the film “A Flor do Buriti”, by Brazilian director Renée Nader Messora and Portuguese João Salaviza, shot with the Krahô indigenous people of Brazil.
