Firefighters from multiple cities try to put out Mission blaze

Firefighters from several cities in the Rio Grande Valley are trying to put out a large brush fire that is developing this Thursday afternoon south of Mission, in the Granjeno area.

According to ranger Tamara Flores, the fire is spreading on one of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service properties.

Mission police have begun a voluntary evacuation of residents south of Granjeno, not out of fear that the fire will affect residences, but because of the danger that smoke poses to people’s health.

Firefighters from Pharr, Mission, Edinburg and McAllen are on the scene responding to the emergency and working to extinguish the fire. There are also members of the Wildland Firefighter of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.

It has been lost on people to avoid the area.
