After the presentation of the new Mac mini with M2 Pro, many interested people are wondering how exactly the computer compares to other Macs. A Mac mini with additional features, for example, quickly advances into the price range of the Mac Studio with M1 Max – accordingly, some weigh between the two devices. So far, there are no official independent test results. However, the first benchmark results that have become public at least allow conclusions to be drawn about the CPU performance.

the test conducted on January 18th puts the performance of the Mac mini M2 Pro (12 cores, 16 GB RAM) at 1,952 points in the single-core rating and 15,013 in the multi-core rating.

Benchmarks of current Macs in comparison

A 2010 Mac mini with M1 scores 1715 for single-core and 7442 for multi-core. If you switch to a Mac mini with M2 (without Pro), you should at least be able to record a slight increase in performance in benchmarks. The MacBook Pro 13 inch from the summer of 2022 gives a foretaste with its M2: with 1900 for the single-core value and 8735 for multi-core.

The comparison with a Mac Studio is more exciting for prospective buyers. Equipped with an M1 Max, this presents a single-core value of 1756 and 12,336 in the multi-core benchmark. However, it also has two cores less than the 12-core Mac Mini with M2 Pro. The new M2 Pro can even stand up to an M1 Ultra in terms of the single-core value: This is only 1754 for the Ultra chip. In the multi-core rating, however, the Ultra with 20 cores rushes away from all the others with 23,325 points.

Of course, the CPU performance is only one aspect. The first tests, which are expected next week, should provide more information about the everyday performance of the Mac mini and the new MacBook Pros.
