High school

In recent times, the most important debate taking place in our country is linked to the concept of freedom. And freedom is associated with the possibility of choosing, so that the State does not complicate your life or cover you with taxes. It is clear that it is a fundamental and very positive discussion that we must have, because we need to move forward in a greater balance between the roles of the State and the market.

From my point of view, freedom is directly linked to the opportunities. And only those who can study have opportunities. The question we must ask ourselves is: What freedom does a girl or a kid have in a neighborhood if they can’t finish high school and all roads are closed to them?

With its problems and its limitations, the school continues to be the best place for girls and boys to generate a horizon for the future. We must improve and transform education, but any attempt to privatize it or to implement systems of vouchers is to condemn girls and girls to the worst of exclusions. It is to continue increasing inequalities and lack of opportunities.

From my role as a national deputy, I presented a bill for the transformation of Secondary Education, with the aim of linking the school with science, technology and innovation, and with the world of work in the 21st century.

A first point is to guarantee schools with quality infrastructure, laboratories, internet connectivity and 21st century equipment. And deepen teaching in digital education, robotics, programming and science and technology. We propose to strengthen teachers, improving their income, their training and providing technological resources and connectivity. We must also continue to consolidate and expand the Program Connect equalityincreasing the provision of computers, the creation of digital classrooms and quality internet access.

Second, we aim to improve the educational quality, with more clock hours of classes, especially to improve reading, writing and mathematics. Along the same lines, I propose to create a great network of tutors and tutors that provides personalized school support to students, with the aim of solving learning deficits, repetition and school dropout.

The third proposal is to include education for work and entrepreneurship as a new high school subject. At the same time, we promote the implementation of a dual system that links education with work through safe, certified, and quality educational practices during the last two years of secondary school. The dual training model based on practical work has a very positive track record in its implementation in Germany.

Fourthly, we propose a massive program of safe schools, with a strong investment in infrastructure so that no one suffers cold, heat or crime and violence when teaching and learning. Schools and the school environment must be safe and healthy places. For this reason, we seek to implement protocols, awareness campaigns and interdisciplinary teams for the prevention and early detection of crimes and violence against students.

The fifth proposal is to generate spaces for joint more direct between the different educational levels. I am referring to the creation of spaces for articulation and activities between the last year of primary education and the first year of secondary education. And, especially, promote the articulation between the last years of high school with the first year of universitywith vocational guidance mechanisms and visits to different study spaces.

Today my commitment is to help ensure that all girls and boys are in secondary school and are trained to work in the 21st century. I am convinced that freedom is giving more and better opportunities through education and work as mechanisms of upward social mobility. And, without a doubt, the best way to take care of these 40 years of democracy is to face the profound transformations that our society demands.
