DeSantis announces rescue of 220 Americans from violence in Haiti

MIAMI.- The long-awaited recreational red snapper fishing season in the Gulf of Mexico this year 2024 will reach a record 103 days, according to the announcement by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and will include the Father’s Day holiday weekends , the 4th of July and the Thanksgiving holiday.

“I am proud to announce that this snapper season will be the longest since our state took over snapper management in the Gulf,” DeSantis said at a press conference.

“Florida is proud to be the fishing and boating capital of the world.”

According to Roger Young, executive director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, “anglers across the country look forward to the recreational red snapper season in the Gulf and the iconic fishing opportunities Florida provides annually.”

Young thanked recreational anglers for their continued investment in the State Reef Fishing Survey, “the study that gives us the data to allow additional days for snapper fishing in federal and state Gulf waters this season.”

Those who fish from private or charter recreational boats will be able to participate in the 2024 Gulf red snapper fishing days.

The 61-day summer season will begin June 1 and continue through July 31. While the fall season, which will be 42 days, will be the longest since the beginning of the state administration and will include the following dates on weekends:

September 1 and 2 (Sunday through Monday of Labor Day weekend)

September 6 to 8

September 13 to 15

September 20 to 22

September 27 to 29

October 4 to 6

October 11 to 13

October 18 to 20

October 25 to 27

November 1 to 3

November 8-11 (Veterans Day Weekend)

November 15 to 17

November 22 to 24

November 28-30 (Thursday through Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend)

Florida is able to offer this long season thanks to analysis of Gulf Coast snapper fishing data. On the Atlantic coast, the red snapper fishing season will last between zero and two days.

In the event that the days authorized for fishing are affected by rain, Florida will consider compensating with additional dates in the Gulf.

Those planning to fish for red snapper in state or federal waters from a private recreational vessel, even if exempt from fishing license requirements, must register as a state reef angler at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com.

This event is regulated; You can only catch two snappers per person per day. Pieces must exceed 16 inches in size.
