Former athlete arrested for alleged fraud and drug possession

The Police announced this Thursday the filing of charges against Elvis Barbosa Cruz, for allegedly trying to change a forged $3,000 check at a bank branch in San Juan.

Barbosa Cruz, 26, was arrested at the scene. The events occurred on August 2.

According to authorities, two bags of methamphetamine were seized from the young man. He faces charges of fraud, possession and transfer of false documents, misrepresentation and controlled substances.

Barbosa Cruz represented Puerto Rica in the Pan American Games in Veracruz 2014 and in Barranquilla in 2018, in the sport of Taekwondo, achieving silver and bronze.

Judge Miledys Barbosa Sanjurjo of the Court of San Juan, determined cause in all crimes with a global bail of $100,000.00 which was provided by PSAJ

The preliminary hearing was scheduled for August 16, 2023.

Every person is considered innocent until proven otherwise in court.
