Former TV host charged with murder in Texas

Authorities charged a former TV host in San Antonio with murder after an argument at a Corpus Christi residence.

According to a Corpus Christi police statement, Jonathan Solarte, 37, was arrested early Monday morning and charged with murder.

Authorities said they received a call around 12:23 am in the 6600 block of Spurs Nation Drive following reports of a shooting.

According to the police report, when officers arrived, they located a man on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as Ricardo Escobar Cardona, 35 years old.

The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition and later lost his life.

“The initial investigation found that the suspect and the victim had a verbal family dispute that escalated into a physical altercation. At some point during the physical altercation, the victim was shot,” read the statement from Corpus Christi authorities.

The suspect was detained and transported to the city detention center.

Telemundo 60 contacted the Corpus Christi Police to request information about the defendant’s lawyer and bail details, but it was indicated that they would not have the details available at the moment.

Solarte was a sports presenter at Univision San Antonio and previously worked at KVDA.

Corpus Christi Police indicated that this is an ongoing investigation and asked anyone with additional information about this crime to call detectives at 361-886-2840 or contact Crime Stoppers at 361-888-TIPS.
