Four people died after their car caught fire after crashing into concrete walls along the 110 Freeway near the Slauson Avenue exit in South Los Angeles.

The accident happened on Thursday, around 11:40 p.m.

“The vehicle, for whatever reason, went over the embankment on the right shoulder and then headed onto the entrance ramp onto Slauson Avenue, heading south,” said California Highway Patrol (CHP) Lt. Robert Gomez.

Several county vehicles were engulfed in flames Wednesday morning.

“The vehicle then struck the sound barrier and was engulfed in flames.”

Video footage from the scene showed the four-door Infiniti sedan was bent over and engulfed in flames after the high-impact collision.

When CHP officers arrived at the scene they found four people dead inside the rubble.

The CHP did not confirm whether this car was involved in street racing prior to the collision. It’s not clear what caused the driver of the car to lose control, but Gomez said preliminary investigation shows the car was traveling at a high speed at the time of the accident.

Authorities ask witnesses to contact the Central Los Angeles division if there is any information at 213-744-2331.
