France blocks flight to Nicaragua for alleged human trafficking

PARIS.- A plane with 303 passengers of Indian nationality, coming from the United Arab Emirates bound for Nicaragua, has been blocked at Vatry airport, 150 kilometers from Paris, the capital of France, since Thursday due to suspicions of “human trafficking.” , as reported by the French Prosecutor’s Office.

The Paris Prosecutor’s Office revealed that the decision to immobilize the aircraft was made after receiving an “anonymous complaint” that warned about the possible presence of Indian passengers who could be victims of human trafficking. Authorities are investigating the possibility that these individuals aimed to reach Nicaragua to try to enter the United States or Canada irregularly.

Sources close to the investigation suggest that the plane made a stopover in Vatry to refuel before continuing its journey to Nicaragua. The Prosecutor’s Office began an investigation to determine if there is evidence to support suspicions of human trafficking, a crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of three million euros ($3.31 million).

The prefecture of the Marne department, in northeastern France, confirmed that the flight of the Romanian airline Legend Airlines remains immobilized on the runway at Vatry airport after a joint operation by air transport authorities.
