Since last Tuesday, the 600 children attending school in Morières-lès-Avignon, in the Vaucluse region, are no longer entitled to their replacement meals in the canteens. Indeed, following a decision by the RN mayor of the commune, in this case Grégoire Souque, the substitution menus in the canteen have been removed.

Putting forward economic reasons, the man who was behind this decision, told BFMTV, that the canteens were faced with an increase in raw materials. Which left this mayor no choice but to give up the substitution menus in the canteens. This mayor reported 3208 menus distributed during this school year.

Substitute meals withdrawn from canteens in the Vaucluse: parents of Muslim students denounce a discriminatory decision

In addition, this decision exempts students with allergies. Indeed, on presentation of a medical certificate, they will be able to continue to bring their own meals. This decision came into effect on January 3, but the parents of the students were informed of this new measure in mid-November 2022.

A new decision which leaves the door open to a new controversy on French territory. Indeed, the opposition, but also many parents of students, denounce a unilateral decision and discrimination against Muslims.

According to them, there is a certain population that the mayor no longer wants in his town, denounces the elected official of the PS opposition, Annick Dubois, in a statement to BFMTV. The latter believes that this measure is primarily aimed at Muslims.

For the RN mayor of Vaucluse, there will always be pork. Parents of Muslim students only have to pick up their children to eat at home, or not be entitled to meat in the canteens of their commune.
