Field of Light.

Freedom Plaza in New York was filled with light this Wednesday with ‘Field of Light’, an electrical installation designed by British artist Bruce Munro arranged across more than two hectares of a park located in front of the United Nations headquarters. United.

The installation, which will open to the public on Friday and can be seen for twelve months, is made up of more than 18,000 spheres with low-luminosity fiber optic stems that subtly change color.

Visitors will be able to walk among the lights in an immersive experience that aims to return to New York City the light it lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The work has no other purpose than to be an expression of joy in itself. Life is full of terrible things and I want people to realize that there are also positive things in the world,” the artist explained to EFE.

In addition, he emphasized that the lights are made of recyclable materials that will be used again in other projects, a gesture that responds to his intention to adapt art to nature.

The artist got the idea to create ‘Field of Light’ on a trip to Australia, where he felt truly alive and connected to the landscape around him, leading him to imagine a field blooming with soft rhythms of light amidst Darkness.

But his inspiration to create the field of lights also comes from the death of his father, as it was then that he decided to boost his career by creating electrical installations that reflected positivity and that transmitted clarity in a dark moment of his life.

Munro also highlighted that he had always wanted to bring this project to New York, and assured that he feels very happy seeing how the installation works in different scenarios: “The lights change the environment, but the environment also changes the lights. It is a symbiotic relationship “added the artist.

The immersive experience, sponsored by the Soloviev Foundation and organized together with The Hope Program, has managed to sell all the tickets to visit it between now and February.
