The story revolves around Joel Miller, an American veteran war fighter and construction worker who loses his only daughter at the start of a pandemic caused by a fungus, which transforms its victims into zombies.
Twenty years later, Miller is a hardened man who does whatever it takes to survive in a world ruled by the dictatorship of the PHAEDRA organization.. His mission in the game and in the series is to assist the transit of Ellie, a teenager essential for the fight against authoritarian rule and against the pandemic.
“Joel lives in the world of action and violencein which the only relationships that influence him are love relationships”, indicated Pascal when explaining his character.

The story, which is told over nine episodes, progresses based on the way in which Miller is motivated by “losing his daughter and finding another daughter,” added Pascal in the talk with the media on the red carpet.
Druckmann and Mazin said that choosing Pascal cAs the protagonist of the series it was a “very easy” decision.
In the series, Pascal is accompanied by actresses Bella Ramsey as Ellie Williams and Anna Torv as Theresa ‘Tess’ Servopoulos. Tommy Miller, Joel’s brother, is played by Mexican-American actor Gabriel Luna.
