George RR Martin said changes to HBO Max amid its merger with Discovery+ have impacted the franchise game of Thrones . He revealed in a publication of Blog shared on Wednesday that some projects “have been shelved” amid the restructuring, but added that he “would not agree with them being dead.”

Martin began his post by noting that he had taken a few days off, but is now back at work on “so much bloody stuff” that his “head might explode soon.” These include the second season of the prequel House of the Dragon and the novel The Winds of Winter the highly anticipated next chapter in the Song of Ice and Fire series.

As for the other successor shows, “some of them are moving faster than others, as development always does,” Martin said. “None have received the green light yet, although we hope… maybe soon. Some have been archived, but I wouldn’t agree with them being dead. You can take something off the shelf just as easily as you can put it on the shelf.”

“All of the changes to HBO Max have certainly impacted us,” Martin said.

Martin hasn’t detailed which projects have been shelved, but a handful of spinoff series have been announced and confirmed since the main series wrapped up in 2019, like the Jon Snow sequel starring Kit Harington, for example.

The merger of HBO Max and Discovery+, announced earlier this year, will launch in the US in summer 2023, with Latin America, Europe and other markets to follow. Several projects have been canceled or removed from the HBO Max library and will move to the third-party platform FAST amid the restructuring (some despite previous renewals), including Minx, Gordita Chronicles, Love Life, and Legendary.
