New York, USA.- Héctor Villarreal Hernández, former treasurer of Humberto Moreira in Coahuila, said during the trial of Genaro García Luna, that he met the former Secretary of Public Security in 2008, when he tried to sell the Pegasus spy system to the entity.

Pegasus is software developed by an Israeli company that allows you to remotely access a cell phone and obtain your personal information.

There are reports that Pegasus has been used to spy on journalists and political figures, however this has not been mentioned during the trial.

Villarreal is accused of conspiring to launder money. During his testimony, he also explained how he and former governor Humberto Moreira stole millions in public money, through a process he called “taking commissions.”

He added how money stolen by the government was used to buy press-friendly coverage.

The former head of the Coahuila Tax Administration System was ready to testify about alleged bribery by García Luna to the Mexican press in order not to publish stories of corruption, but Judge Brian Cogan suppressed his testimony, considering that it “has no probative evidence crime-related.”
