Members of the “Montecarlo” Section, together with comrades from the Eldorado Judicial Procedures Unit of the National Gendarmerie (GNA), seized a large number of cigarette packages of foreign origin and origin during a procedure carried out last Saturday in Montecarlo .
Sources from the aforementioned federal force told this morning newspaper that the operation was carried out during the afternoon as a result of a deployment of gendarmerie in the area known as Colonia Guaraypo.
According to the spokespersons, at the time when the uniformed officers were carrying out tours with a mobile of the force along the dirt roads of said town, they noticed recent traces of the passage of a vehicle through an unusual area of traffic on the road.
Suspecting some illegal activity by strangers in the place, the feds proceeded to enter one of the trails. And a few meters away, they saw a person who was carrying packages with characteristics similar to cigarette boxes.
Kidnapping
Faced with the presumption of being faced with a violation of Law 22,415, the personnel involved called a halt on behalf of the institution. Although the stranger, upon noticing the presence of the troops, he undertook a quick escape and managed to get lost in the lives of the uniformed men.
Moments later, once the troops arrived at the sector where the man was surprised, they carried out an extensive search that resulted in the discovery of 17 cigarette boxes.
In turn, it was added that the merchandise was of foreign origin and that it clearly did not have customs documentation.
In the presence of witnesses, the uniformed officers proceeded to open the packages, verifying that said boxes contained cigarettes inside and that they threw out a total of 8,500 packages of cigarettes of different brands.
The spokespersons consulted indicated that the approximate value of the seized cargo exceeded two million pesos in cash. For this procedure, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Court of Eldorado intervened. While by disposition of the magistrate Miguel Ángel Guerrero, the kidnapping and lodging of the boxes was ordered in a dependency of the Gendarmerie for their custody.
