General Abdourahmane Tiani names himself leader of Niger

brigadier general Abdourrahmane Tianicommander of the Nigerian Presidential Guardheads the military junta responsible for the coup in nigerorganized in the self-styled National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (CLSP).

tiani appeared this Friday as president of the CLSP on Nigerian public television and for the first time after the coup, led by the Presidential Guard and supported by the Armed Forces, to give an account of the reasons for their action.

In his speech, tiani criticized the policy of the deposed government of the president Mohamed Bazoum in the area of ​​security, economic and social, and described his action as “incoherent and ineffective.”

Regarding security, he denounced that bazoum excluded collaborating with neighbors Burkina Fasooy mali –also governed by a military junta after separate coups d’état–, when the three countries share the area where the most jihadist activity occurs.

tiani assured that “all international commitments signed by the Republic of Niger and human rights”, and called on its partners to give “all necessary support” to the CLSP “at this crucial stage”, as well as to trust the Nigerien forces in their work to maintain national unity and integrity.
