Mexico City.- The MTV Movie & TV Awards made a change of plans due to the Writers Guild of America strike.

This Friday, executive producer Bruce Gillmer reported that the event will no longer take place live and Sunday’s broadcast will be a recorded broadcast.

“As we carefully search for the best way to deliver the fan-first awards show we imagine our team has worked so hard to create, we’re moving away from a live event that still allows us to produce a memorable night full of sneak peeks. exclusives, irreverent categories our audience has come to expect and countless moments that will surprise and delight as we honor the best of film and television over the past year,” the statement read.

This news comes after the Writers Guild announced its plan to demonstrate at the event, in the midst of its dispute with the Alliance of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP).

“The Writers Guild of America will picket the MTV Movie and TV Awards at 05:00 pm on Sunday, May 7 at the Barker Hanger in Los Angeles #WGASTRIKE,” the organization wrote via social media.

It should be remembered that it is not the only change in the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023, because a few days ago, Drew Barrymore left her position as presenter of the event.

“I have listened to the writers and, to truly respect them, I am stepping down from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards in solidarity with the strike,” Barrymore said.
