The online platform led about seven years ago GOG.com a service called GOG Connect that is as interesting as it is useful at first glance. With its help it was possible to Transfer games from Steam to GOG.com library. That way, users got an extra copy of the game, which on top of that DRM-free was. But this service no longer exists.

GOG Connect stealth shutdown

Like the observant Reddit user, among others “Gadoken” recently noticed GOG Connect is no longer active and therefore no longer usable. If you the appropriate URL for the service entered, you will be forwarded to Main page of the GOG.com online store. What is surprising here is that it no official announcement for this step on the part of the operators, the shutdown should therefore have taken most users by surprise.

This is how the community reacted to the end of GOG Connect

Appropriately upset some of them show up in the comments at Reddit.com. Fortunately, most of them formulate their displeasure very moderately. Although they express their regret about the end of GOG Connect, they are otherwise very relaxed. Some users are even very reflective and refer to both the age of the service and its sparse use.

In fact, since the launch of GOG Connect very few games on Steam who supported the transfer to GOG.com in the first place. More release waves were supposed to follow, but there have been in this regard for several years no more updates. There are therefore many indications that the operators have the service let it expire silently, without making a big fuss. What is your general opinion on GOG Connect? A principle cool idea or from the start a stillbirth? Let us know in the comments!
