She moved, made people laugh and cry that night at the Golden Globes. Comedian Jennifer Coolidge also dropped a huge spoiler from the series The White Lotusin her acceptance speech on Tuesday after receiving the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Series.
The day after this speech, in which the actress thanked Mike White, the creator of the series which relaunched her career, the fans fulminate (a little), but forgive her a lot as she is so funny and touching.
“In the age of streaming and international viewers, it is illegal for actors to spoil a (recent) series in an acceptance speech,” wrote one viewer.
“Only Jennifer Coolidge can reveal the end of a series in a speech and she is the queen of blunderers”, laughs another.
“Did she really spoil?”
Others, incredulous, wonder: “Did she really spoil the last season of the series?”. Some dare not click on the extracts of the evening, for fear of discovering the spoiler in question.
Because if the evening of the Golden Globes was very little followed in the United States, recording its lowest audience. The ceremony drew 6.3 million viewers on Tuesday night, up from 18 million in 2020 before the pandemic and scandals hit these previously well-watched awards as they kick off awards season in the United States.
The actress also thanked Ryan Murphy, one of the rare directors to have made her turn during her long lean years. But it is especially towards Mike White that his thanks went. The director was also in tears.
“I had such big dreams”
“When I was younger, I had such big dreams and such high hopes, but what happened was that life blew them away. I thought I was going to be Queen of Monaco, even if anyone else did,” she joked. “And then you get old and you think, ‘Oh, what’s going to happen? And, Mike White, you’ve given me hope. You’ve given me a fresh start… You’ve changed my life in a million different ways.”
Because before returning to center stage, thanks to the success of The White Lotus, Jennifer Coolidge has chained small roles. She especially remained in the annals of cinema for her role in American Pie and the one in A Blonde’s Revenge. And if it is indeed a little compromised to become “Queen of Monaco”, it is not too late for the “big dreams” of Jennifer Coolidge.
