GoldenEye 007 is available today. Since the game is not sold separately, you may be wondering what are the ways to play it. If you want to discover or rediscover this classic from the Rare studio, you have two options. The first is to play the game on Xbox or mobile by subscribing to Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The second is to own the Rare Replay game, the compilation of Rare classics. In the case of the latter, however, one condition must be met.
Only the digital version is compatible
Released in 2015, Rare Replay is playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The title is available in dematerialized as well as in physical form. When GoldenEye 007 was announced, we learned that Rare Replay owners could download the game for free when it was released.
A few hours after the launch of GoldenEye 007, several returns reported the impossibility of recovering the game by owning Rare Replay. Faced with questions from players, the studio spoke on
Twitter to indicate that only the dematerialized version of the Rare Replay allowed to take advantage of the free update adding GoldenEye 007 to the list of games.
Due to differences between physical and digital licensing, we were only able to add GoldenEye 007 for owners of a Rare Replay digital copy. Buying the game digitally or subscribing to Xbox Game Pass will give you access to the game! Our apologies for any disappointment caused.
Owning the Rare Replay collection in physical therefore does not entitle you to receive GoldenEye 007 for free. The latter is not sold separately on the Microsoft Store, so you will have to buy the Rare Replay in dematerialized version or subscribe to the Xbox Game Pass to be able to enjoy it.
