• Google Chrome now has memory saver and battery saver
  • Thanks to the freeing of memory on inactive tabs, the Google browser becomes less greedy
  • These features are enabled by default, but Google Chrome lets you control them

It’s the end of RAM memory problems when using Google’s Chrome browser. It also uses less of your laptop’s battery. Google deploys a Chrome update which brings two important new features: memory saver and battery saver. The first optimizes performance by freeing up memory on inactive tabs, while the second limits background activities when the battery is less than 20%, or if the laptop is unplugged (you have two options).

These two new features were announced by Google in December. And according to our colleagues from Android Police, they are now deployed on versions 110 of Google Chrome for computers. Also, to take advantage of it, you just need to make sure that you are already using the latest version of Chrome. This is because Google enables Memory Saver and Battery Saver by default, when these features are available.

In any case, thanks to these two utilities, Chrome should take off its performance. This novelty is also important because the Google browser is regularly singled out for its excessive consumption of resources on computers. Now, even when you have many tabs open, Chrome should stay smooth. Indeed, on inactive tabs, the memory is freed, and it is only used when the tab becomes active again.

How to Control Chrome’s Saver

As mentioned above, Google enables memory and battery savers by default. But since these utilities can affect the operation of the sites you open, the browser also allows you to control them. First, you can always turn them off. You will find the button to disable these two options in Settings > Performance.

For the memory saver, you have the possibility to add a list of websites to an exceptions list, so that the tabs of these sites always remain active. Regarding the energy saver, you can choose between three options: deactivate the feature, activate it when the battery is at 20%, activate it as soon as the PC is unplugged. Note that the battery saver can affect performance in games and video playback.

Finally, when using Chrome, two new icons may appear. On the address bar, an icon corresponding to the memory saver will let you know how many megabytes have been saved. Another icon also tells you when Battery Saver has been activated.

What is certain is that the performance of Google Chrome will improve. And this will make the browser even more competitive against its competitors.
