Google announced a feature yesterday that will serve many Wear OS users on smartwatches. From now on, the user will be able to browse Google Maps without a direct connection to a smartphone. Of course, the smartwatch needs to have LTE connection and an active data plan or direct Wifi connection.

The novelty frees the cell phone from connecting data between Maps to the watch and gives even more autonomy to the gadget on the user’s arm.

The beneficiary devices will be those that carry the WearOS system, that is, Android. Of the most popular ones, we can mention Samsung’s Galaxy Watch and TicWatch.

Galaxy Watch 5 Pro that we tested

Specifically, Samsung will have several models contemplated by the novelty, including the Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 4 Classic, Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro. By the way, we recently tested the powerful Galaxy Watch 5 Pro – the most powerful and complete in the category. See the Review here.

Lost cell signal, no problem

The new feature also facilitates when you are mirroring a cell phone navigation and eventually run out of signal, the watch can take over from that point on, without losing the route.

Update the view?

There is, however, no information on how Google will implement the new feature on smartwatches, but it is assumed that it will come through a system update or Google maps in the coming days or weeks.
