End-to-end encryption for group chats has arrived for more Google Messages users, according to user reports. Present in the main messengers, such as WhatsApp and Telegram, this technology ensures that messages can only be read on the sender’s and recipient’s cell phones.

End-to-end encryption began rolling out in June 2021, and in December 2022, Google promised to extend the feature to group chats. Finally, the time seems to have arrived in version 20230329_00_RC01.phone_dynamic of the messenger for Android.

Encryption protection is a complex feature, so it is unique to RCS protocol conversations. Therefore, the function will only include conversations between Android users, since iMessage does not support RCS on the iPhone.

So far, Google has not announced the definitive release of the novelty. However, the distribution appears to have been global. The update should be rolled out gradually in the Play Store.
