As a sign of hope, the residents of El Mozote have received the project that is renovating their hamlet through the Municipal Works Directorate (DOM).

“For us as victims of El Mozote it is an impact to see that our President is working for this community”commented María de Paz, an inhabitant of this place in Morazán, the scene of one of the worst massacres in Latin America that occurred in December 1981. In addition, she recalled that in the massacre she lost four brothers and 17 nephews.

Within the framework of the 40th anniversary of the massacre, President Bukele announced on December 10, 2021 works to completely renovate El Mozote, which comply with the recommendations of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

On February 18, the 4th phase of works consisting of the construction of an Urban Center for Well-being and Opportunities, known as CUBO, and an amphitheater was launched.

In addition, the works for the construction of a gastronomic square, which will be made up of a mesanini, with 6 kiosks, are advancing. It also includes another 7 handicraft kiosks that will be located on the outside of the trails. A permanent water cistern and a sewage connection will also be installed.

Work on the construction of the sports center is also advancing in this area, as is the construction of its stands on the eastern and western sides. A kind of fence and the base of the basketball court are also being installed.

The sports center is located in an area of ​​3,500 square meters. The construction of the social infrastructure also generates employment opportunities for more than 20 local people.
