Buenos Aires. The Argentine humanitarian organization Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo announced on Friday the restitution of the identity of grandson 133, appropriated during the last military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983).
The organization that is looking for the children of the people murdered and disappeared during the de facto regime who were stolen by the repressors when they were newborns or children, will announce the identity of the newly recovered grandson and the details of his recovery in the next few hours. .
“Almost 40 years after the start of the longest democratic period in our history, we continue to search for our grandsons and granddaughters, every day. Each restitution reaffirms that the Argentine people accompanies us and decides not to forget,” said the organization chaired by Estela de Carlotto in a statement.
Victoria Montenegro, granddaughter recovered in 2000 thanks to the work of Abuelas and deputy of the city of Buenos Aires, confirmed the news. “Fighting is worth it! Welcome to the truth, grandson 133”, said the legislator on social networks.
Montenegro later told the press that the event carries “the emotion of more than forty years with a life and finding your identity, with this joy.”
According to Abuelas, there are about 300 men and women who live with their falsified identity because they were raised by their appropriators.
Some 30,000 people disappeared during the last dictatorship, according to human rights organizations.
Dozens of women gave birth in clandestine detention centers and their babies were taken from them by their captors, who later killed or made them disappear.
