Growing five points in Buenos Aires, the obsession of Javier Milei and Carolina Piparo

“You have to go through Buenos Aires, because it is not impossible.” With last Sunday’s electoral results on the table, in the political laboratories of Javier Miley they began to focus on the province of Buenos Aires, a battlefield in which they will seek to raise the performance to win the presidential election and position Caroline Piparo as the main rival of Axel Kicillof in the October fight. Grow five points, that is the obsession of ultraliberalism.

They believe that improving the vote harvest in the district by five points with 37 percent of the national electoral roll would leave Milei one step away from the presidency. I would put Piparo at a distance not too far from what the governor took out; For this reason, the axis of the campaign that will come in the next sixty days will be placed in the Buenos Aires territory, where it will seek to strongly polarize with the figure of Kicillof.

In Buenos Aires, the PASO left a scenario in which the most voted presidential candidate was Milei (one hundred thousand votes above Sergio Massa), although due to the sum of the inmates from Unión por la Patria (UP) and Juntos por el Cambio (JxC) the libertarians were third as a force. In the gubernatorial election, Piparo was the second most voted with one million votes below Axel Kicillofbut far exceeding the numbers of Nestor Grindetti y Diego Santilli.

Although they are still in the stage of analyzing the results and beginning to design a roadmap for what is to come, in the La Libertad Avanza (LLA) camp they are already certain that the agenda will focus on Buenos Aires, with a strong joint presence. of Milei and Piparo in the suburbs and the interior. They will look at the big cities and especially in the First electoral section, the north and northwest of Greater Buenos Aires, where they believe that the ballot has a lot to grow.

The biggest surprise in the analysis of the results of Milei and Piparo was the transversality of the vote both in age and in social composition. Contrary to what was believed, that LLA would be based basically on young men from low-income and middle-class sectors, the libertarian ballot was also highly voted by older people and also in middle- and upper-middle-class neighborhoods.

Now, the objective is to improve that penetration by pushing hard the joint appearance of Milei and Piparo with a lot of emphasis on the security discourse, the workhorse of La Plata.

The idea to install is that if at the national level there is a stage of thirds, in Buenos Aires the fight will be two: Kicillof versus Piparo.

In the libertarian bunker they assure that Grindetti’s numbers will fade, because they will capture many of Santilli’s votes that were “orphaned.”

“You have to go through Buenos Aires because it is not impossible -they say in the LLA camp-. For Milei to be president he has to grow five points in the province and if Piparo grows five he will also be close to 30 points, shortly of Kicillof. You have to get to that stage”.
