Guitarist Mark Sheehan of Irish band The Script has died aged 46 after a short illness. The musician died in hospital, the band announced on Twitter today. She, along with the family, asked all fans to “respect their privacy at this tragic time.” Sheehan formed the group in 2001 with frontman Danny O’Donoghue and drummer Glen Power.

Their 2008 self-titled debut album made it to number one in the UK Albums Chart – as did four of the musicians’ five later records. The band had their biggest hit in 2012 with the single “Hall of Fame”. The song with the US rapper will.i.am was number one in the charts not only in Great Britain but also in Austria.
