Gunman dies in deadly confrontation with police in Windsor

DENVER, Colorado – The Windsor Police Department (WPD) is investigating an incident where several of its officers shot and killed a 39-year-old man.

The incident occurred Monday night and according to a WPD press release, multiple callers made 911 calls reporting a suicidal and possibly intoxicated man who was aggressive and armed.

When officers arrived on scene for a domestic disturbance at a residence on Sunflower Drive shortly after 9 pm, police say the man involved was uncooperative and was armed with a shotgun.

The man fired three shots before officers responded and shot him. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. During the incident, neither the officers nor any other people were injured.

Greeley Police said there is no continuing security threat to the public. The Weld County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet identified the deceased man. The Greeley Police Department reported that the investigation is ongoing.
