Max confirmed this Wednesday (12) the rumors that the universe of Harry Potter would go on television for the first time. The new streaming platform, the result of a merger between HBO Max and Discovery +, will be the home of the new series.
According to an official announcement from Warner Bros. Discovery, the series will be a faithful adaptation of JK Rowling’s books, which conquered children and teenagers from all over the world. The author will also be an executive producer of the new plot, despite the controversies related to her name.
Harry Potter: The Series
Each of the seven books in the saga Harry Potter will be explored in the new production, which should last a decade. “The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fans, full of the fantastic detail, lovable characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have come to love over these 25 years,” reads the official statement.
Warner Bros. Discovery also highlights that each season will be faithful to the original book of each story, something that fans of adaptations value a lot. “In the meantime, the classic and beloved original films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally,” Warner Bros. Despite the controversial comments on Twitter, the author who created the universe of Harry Potter remains active in the franchise, now as an executive producer. For a few years, JK Rowling has been manifesting herself on social media with comments against transgender people. With the news, fans of the franchise have already begun to speak out against the author’s decision to partner with Warner Bros. Discovery.
“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me,” says the author. “And I look forward to being a part of this new adaptation, which will allow for a new degree of depth and detail that can only be achieved by a long-running television series,” she adds.
