Hawaii Instagram Influencer Theresa Cachuela Shot Dead

A Hawaii mother was shot and killed in front of her 11-year-old daughter by her estranged husband, who later died by suicide, authorities said, according to multiple reports.

Theresa Cachuela, 33, was killed Friday at a shopping center in Honolulu, authorities said, reported Hawaii News Now, Island News and KHON2. Theresa and her daughter were heading to the bank when police said Jason Calchuela, 44, approached them and shot his wife, according to police.

Jason was later found dead behind a residence, KHON2 reported, citing police. Weeks before the shootings, Theresa filed for a temporary restraining order, which was granted, against Jason, court records indicate.

According to the petition, reviewed, Theresa said Jason threatened suicide while her children were present and later held a knife to his own neck. Following a wellness check, according to the petition, Jason showed up at her home again and hid in the garage.

Court records show that Jason and Theresa agreed to a one-year protection order. As part of the protection order, Jason surrendered his guns.

Theresa was an Instagram influencer who had 20,000 followers and posted frequently about her religious beliefs. Theresa’s family started a GoFundMe to raise money for funeral expenses.

“She was coming to have breakfast with me that morning because I wanted to give her and my grandkids their Christmas gifts,” wrote Theresa’s mother in the GoFundMe description. “My daughter did not deserve this. She was trying so hard to get help, but the Justice system failed her. We are so devastated with the loss of our beloved Tita.
