The surprise effect combined with a series of insults, shouts and a firearm were enough for a thief to block his victim in a business located at 7, between 71 and 72 and fulfill his mission: seize the collection.
The event, as this newspaper was able to find out, took place in the pet shop called “What your pet chews”.
The individual, whose identity until the closing of this edition remained unknown to the investigators, entered the place around 10:30 a.m. when the commercial movement began to gain pace.
“We had had very few clients until that time,” a representative of the firm told this newspaper. At the same time, he indicated that the offender was able to appropriate the few bills that had been in the box up to that moment.
“Today, payments with transfers or cards are becoming the norm. That is why many businesses no longer work with the volumes of cash that they used to work with before. Most of the clients pay with electronic means of payment because they consider that it is more practical and safer than spending money. With the apps and cards, cash is collected little or nothing, ”he said.
As indicated, minutes after 10 o’clock, the subject entered the premises and without preamble launched the attack.
Typically, thieves who attack businesses often pose as customers first.
This instance allows thugs to define a series of variables before finalizing the hit.
Through observation they can establish the number of people in the premises, potential escape routes, location of alarms and cameras and the operation of the box.
On this occasion, the subject put aside this kind of thief’s manual and combined immediacy with improvisation.
In a clip that this newspaper had access to, you can see the decision with which the suspect advanced along the sidewalk and ended up entering the pet shop.
As soon as he set foot in the store, he covered his face with his arm and thus, despite having been filmed by the store’s security cameras, made it impossible to distinguish his facial features.
The specific thing is that, with the weapon in hand, he advanced to the other side of the counter, leaving the firm’s employee with no escape.
After generating a climate of nervousness and tension, the subject began to demand that they give him the collection. Overcome with fear, he had no choice but to give in.
Although the boy gave him the money from the collection and at no time did he offer any resistance, to ensure total submission, the violent thief placed the revolver on his head and forced him to throw himself to the ground.
Always threatening the victim that he would pull the trigger if he turned around, the subject seized everything he found under the counter, including the employee’s belongings. Then he ran away.
So far, the investigators point to a random robbery, although the possibility that the subject may have carried out prior surveillance of the place is not ruled out.
The researchers trust that they will be able to confirm or rule out this theory in the next few hours once they finish analyzing the images captured by cameras in the area.
