A 20-year-old municipal employee from Puerto Rico died yesterday morning in the aforementioned town when he was hit and run over by the garbage truck with which he worked and which at that time was driven by his own father, with whom he victim also shared jobs for the municipality.
The unfortunate and tragic episode occurred on one of the internal streets of the Los Lapachos neighborhood of the aforementioned town and according to what was reported by police sources who intervened in the event, the deceased young man was identified as Armando Suárez (20).
Both police officers and medical personnel arrived at the place where the serious incident occurred, but at that moment they already came across the lifeless body of the young man, lying on the ground and with various serious injuries.
The first two to be consulted by the Police about what happened were precisely Rolando (49), father of the deceased, and Mario (26), also a municipal employee and who was accompanying the driver.
Those who were in the cab of the truck reconstructed, according to what they could see, the last moments of life of Armando, who was in the back of the vehicle collecting the waste in each corner.
Due to the death of the young man, neither yesterday nor today there will be a collection service.
The intervening police doctor verified that the worker who was attacked had severe polytrauma with a skull fracture.
And for this reason, members of the Scientific Police Division of Regional Unit IV carried out a series of tests at the scene to reconstruct what happened and try to determine if it was an unfortunate maneuver by the driver or some other situation that could have triggered the tragedy. .
For this fact, the Investigating Court One of Puerto Rico intervened, which ordered different investigative measures to clarify the fact.
Meanwhile, from the social networks of the Municipality, the suspension of the service was communicated as a result of what happened and announced that the measure will be extended until today.
Antecedent
An event with similar characteristics to what happened in Puerto Rico took place in June of last year, but in Posadas.
There, another municipal employee, but from the capital city, died on Wednesday June 15 after being crushed by the garbage truck in which he carried out his work.
According to what was reported by police sources, the tragic accident occurred around 9:50 in the Latin America neighborhood of the provincial capital when members of the 15th Police Station were required by the 911 Emergency System due to a serious road accident.
Through testimonies, it was possible to establish that two Municipality operators were traveling in the back of a Ford 1723 truck, driven by a 45-year-old man, while they were carrying out waste collection work on Peru Street, between Nicaragua and Brasilia.
At one point, the driver carried out a reverse maneuver – apparently because there was cobblestone work ahead – without being able to observe that one of the operators fell to the ground and ended up with his left leg crushed by one of the truck’s wheels.
An ambulance from the Transfer Network was present at the scene and urgently took the man, identified as Maximiliano Villalba, to the Ramón Madariaga hospital.
However, unfortunately, around 1:20 p.m. the death of the worker was reported.
