The spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism apologized on Monday, just over a month after his gesture. He says “regret the incident”.

A time passed unnoticed, the scene has gone viral. It dates back to February 28. That day, the Dalai Lama was invited by the M3M Foundationwhich presents itself as “the philanthropic branch” of the property developer M3M. In addition to the members of this organization, students are present. The meeting takes place in Dharamsala, India, where the Tibetan spiritual leader lives.

During his speech, a little boy asks him if he can give him a hug. Request accepted by the interested party, who wishes in return a kiss on the cheek from the young child.

“He regrets the incident”

Then the Dalai Lama puts one on his mouth, lifting his chin. He laughs and tilts his forehead against the boy’s, before sticking his tongue out and moving closer to the boy again with a surprising request.

“Suck my tongue,” we hear him say in the video.

In the face of the outcry, the Dalai Lama apologized “to the boy and his family, as well as to his many friends around the world, for the harm his words may have caused”.

“His Holiness often teases the people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and in front of the cameras. He regrets the incident”, can we also read in the dedicated press release.
